We invite you to celebrate our wedding with us, virtually
Software engineer who teaches robots how to see. Rock climber, disc golfer, roller coaster lover. Has a lot of yo-yos.
Medical imaging scientist who is excited to no longer be in school. Rock climber, crocheter, Disney lover. Has a lot of plants.
We actually interned together during the spring and summer of 2014 as part of our respective programs at college. Jenna started Intern Donut Wednesdays, which were celebrated on a weekly basis. A few months later, Ryan won Jenna's White Elephant gift at the company Christmas party.
To our mutual surprise, we both interned again at the same company the next summer. Ryan asked Jenna to go sky-diving. She compromised with roller coasters. Our friends figured out we were dating before we did.
From Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, the wilds of the PA Turnpike and Greyhound bus stations became familiar stomping grounds. Jenna missed Philly, so Ryan would bring Philly Pretzel Factory pretzels when he visited.
Things were great! Jenna finished grad school. Ryan has a great job. But everything changed when the coronavirus happened...Still, how many people can say they got engaged during a pandemic?
While we were celebrating our engagement, the COVID-19 pandemic was wrecking havoc around the world. We waited a few months to see if the dust would settle. It was our hope to be able to safely have a wedding with our family, friends, and loved ones. Sadly, it does not seem like this will be a possibility any time soon. Jenna had to defend her Ph.D. via Zoom when PA's stay-at-home order caused the university to go virtual mid-semester. Ryan has been working remotely since March as his office building is closed.
We would be lying if we said that it has been easy to make decisions about our wedding. While nothing would make us happier than celebrating our wedding with you in person, we agreed that the health and safety of our loved ones was more important than having a big in-person celebration.
Instead, we would like to invite you to join our ceremony virtually. We are having a small ceremony in a local church that's large enough for social distancing of our immediate families. We are working with the church to coordinate a live stream of the ceremony. When we can, we are looking forward to safely celebrating with you in person!
With love,
Jenna and Ryan
Many thanks to Brennan Sellner and Resonance Works for helping make this stream possible!
In case you haven't heard, we're going to be moving back to the Philadelphia area in the spring (Jenna got a job at CHOP). In order to keep our move easy, we've elected to not have a registry with physical goods. We are hoping to buy a house, so anything that would help our journey as first time homeowners or has sentimental meaning would be appreciated. If you'd like to send us something, please feel free to contact us or our parents to get an address - that's not information we want to make publically available on the Internet.
And, of course, please don't feel obligated to send anything. We know this year has been difficult, and we don't want to place financial burdens on anyone.
With love, again,
Jenna and Ryan
